The 10th anniversary of Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation

The head of the Polish government, together with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, paid tribute to the victims of Auschwitz-Birkenau. This is the Chancellor's first visit to the former German concentration camp, she was invited by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Next year marks the anniversary of the liberation of Nazi German concentration camps, so significant for Poland and Polish historical memory. Mateusz Morawiecki stressed that "we are obliged to keep hold of this memory. As he added, the testimonies from the times of extermination camps in Auschwitz-Birkenau build our present.

Prime Minister emphasised that those who are passive in the face of historical distortions are the co-authors of these distortions - stressed Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. For this reason, today we must all protect the truth of those times with the greatest care - summed up Mateusz Morawiecki.

Prime Minister, together with Angela Merkel, laid flowers at the Death Wall and lit candles at the International Monument to the Victims of the Camp.

Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation was established in January 2009 on the initiative of Professor Władysław Bartoszewski, 38 countries participate in it. Its main objective is to finance the conservation of historical sites.
