The head of government participated in the summit of the Friends of Cohesion Group – UE countries which want, i.a., the maintenance of resources for cohesion, e.g. infrastructure and agriculture, at a level similar to the current one. The Friends of Cohesion Group is a successful measure for achieving goals in the EU emphasised the Prime Minister.

Mateusz Morawiecki said that catching up with western countries in economic terms, following the non-culpable post-communist collapse, Poland must have resources for development of the substandard infrastructure. As he underlined, that is precisely what the cohesion fund is for.

The head of government stressed that one of the most important principles of the EU is to establish equal conditions for competition, cooperation and sales of products and services in the single market. Moreover, the cohesion policy and Common Agricultural Policy are one of the primary objectives for the coming years. All road and railway connections as well as energy and climate transition serve the whole of Europe explained the head of government.

According to the Prime Minister, the Fair Transition Fund should be higher than the one previously suggested. As he stated, the entire Visegrád Group holds a similar position. The agreement must be based on justice and the efforts put by our countries over the past 30 years, for example, the Kyoto Protocol, with regard to the financial capacity he said.

During his visit to Prague, the Prime Minister took part in a meeting of the heads of governments of the Visegrád Group, during which the V4 Prime Ministers discussed the issues concerning the EU budget and EU climate policy. The outcome of the Summit is a declaration drafted jointly by the Friends of Cohesion countries.

The informal Friends of Cohesion Group consists of 17 EU Member States that indicate the role of the EU cohesion policy and Common Agricultural Policy as reliable financial instruments of significant importance for the development of Member States. They call for the maintenance of resources for cohesion and agriculture at a level similar to the current one, included in the EU budget for the years 2014-2020. In accordance with the previous proposals of the European Commission and the Finnish Presidency, the resources for cohesion and agricultural policy are to be reduced to enable greater financing of other objectives.
