Born on April 20, 1954 in Warsaw.

Professor of Sociology, hold master's degree in economics, academic lecturer, in 2005 - 2011 he was the President of the Polish Sociological Association.

He studied at the Institute of Economic Sciences and the Institute of Sociology at the University of Warsaw. In 1978 he obtained a master's degree in economics. He completed his doctoral studies in the Department of Life Styles Research at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1984 obtained Ph.D. degree in humanities. In 1997 he became the habilitated doctor of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology in 1997. In 2008 he obtained Prof. Ph.D. degree in humanities. Since late 70’s until today, he has been active at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In 1997 -2005 he headed the Department of Civil Society. Full professor, Head of the Department of Sociology of Social Structure at the Institute of Sociology, University of Bialystok, where he has been employed since 1998.

Since the 80’s he has been actively involved in the works of NGOs. He was, inter alia, the co-founder and long-standing president of the Social Ecological Institute, he co-organized All-Polish Congresses of Environmental Movement. Co-founder and long-standing member of the Board of the KLON/JAWOR Association and co-founder and long-standing member of the audit committee and a member of the Academy for the Development of Philanthropy in Poland.

In 2011 President Bronisław Komorowski awarded him the Polonia Restituta Officer's Cross.

Frequent participant to the internships abroad, inter alia the Stanford University Ford Foundation scholarship, lecturer at numerous European universities. In the 70’s and 80’s an activist of the democratic opposition and the NSZZ “Solidarność" (inter alia member of the  Intervention and Mediation Committee of "Mazowsze” Region). In 1997, a candidate to the Sejm from the list of Freedom Union as part of the  Environmental Leaders Electoral Committee. In 1998 – 2000 member of the Freedom Union.

Since 2010 he has been supporting Law and Justice. On February 15, 2014, he became the Chairman of the Program Council of Law and Justice, where he conducted in-depth studies of a team of experts on a new party’s programme. He was the initiator and organizer of the  the Law and Justice Programme Convention on and the United Right "Myśląc Polska”. Today, Professor Piotr Gliński is a deputy to the Sejm of VIII term.

Married, has 9 year old daughter.
