As government spokesman Piotr Müeller said after the meeting, at this stage, Poland’s goal is to maintain political and geographical balance when it comes to recruitment for positions in the European Commission and other EU institutions. He added that the Polish government’s stand on which candidate to support for the position of President of the EC will probably be announced on 20 June, during the next meeting of the European Council in Brussels.

For many weeks now, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has been consulting with heads of EU member state governments on who should be elected for the head administrative positions in the EU for the next term. During an informal dinner that took place on 28 May the leaders of EU member states began formal negotiations regarding this matter.
