Prime Minister: We want the European Union to be a global superpower, not only in economic terms, but also in political terms

Today, Mateusz Morawiecki met with the President-elect of the European Union, Charles Michel, in Warsaw.

During the meeting, the priorities of the European Union were discussed, which will be reflected in the activities of the Council in the following months. One of its most important tasks will be to establish a position on the EU budget and the new EU climate policy.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the area of new own revenue of the EU were discussed in detail today, and the issues of the situation in the common market, including the challenges relating to protecting the competitiveness of the European economy and counteracting protectionist practices were addressed.

In the context of the climate policy, Mateusz Morawiecki emphasised that it is crucial to maintain energy security on the one hand and competitiveness of the entire European industry on the other hand, while at the same time taking care of the environment and reducing the emission of pollutants and CO2. These objectives are not always consistent with each other and easy to reconcile but that is what a good, healthy discussion that took place today consists in he emphasised.

Mateusz Morawiecki expressed his hope that we will be able to reach a compromise on many issues with the new President. We will fight for Poland’s interests, taking into account various starting points. We are open to dialogue, and today’s meeting is a step in the right direction summed up the Head of the Polish government.
