Prime Minister: we are working effectively to protect citizens against such dramas as the flood in 1997.

The implementation of the long-awaited flood prevention project, namely the construction of the Racibórz Dolny dry reservoir, has been completed. The investment means primarily an increase in security for 2.5 million inhabitants of three voivodships located in the area of the Oder river: Śląskie, Opolskie and Dolnośląskie, within the area of approx. 600 km2. The project would not have been implemented if it wasn’t for the dedication of the local community, which showed its readiness to resettle into the newly built village.

The reservoir is ready now. Our government has done the lion's share of work, while the past 15-20 years weren’t quite fruitful for this region which experienced only problems. We protect Poles against disaster. I would like to thank the services and hope there will never be such a flood like in 1997 again.  - said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during his visit to the Silesian voivodship.

Racibórz Dolny reservoir - reducing the flood risk in the Oder valley

The origin of the investment goes back to the tragic consequences of the flood in 1997. The main task of the Racibórz Dolny reservoir is to radically reduce the flood risk in the Oder valley below the reservoir by ensuring flood retention. This will significantly reduce the flow below the reservoir and delay the time when the flood wave culmination reaches the mouth of Nysa Kłodzka, and thus it will reduce the risk of overlapping both waves.

The total cost of the investment was about PLN 2 billion.

Today we are safe, we will not leave any citizen alone. We work effectively to protect citizens against such tragedies as the 1997 flood.  - added the head of the government.

Consecration of residents and construction of a new village

The construction of the reservoir would not have been possible if it wasn’t  for the resettlement of the communities of two villages: Nieboczowy and Ligota Tworkowska. As part of the investment, a new village was built, with a completely new infrastructure, including new roads, sewage system, water supply, sports field, church, as well as the Village Culture Center with a fire station. The total cost amounts to over PLN 58 million.

Currently, 170 people reside in the Nieboczowy village.
