“She was a great role model not only for thousands of athletes, but also for all Poles. She showed how to create a better country and society through sport, and how to get up when we suffer from failure,” said the Prime Minister. “We are very grateful to her for that,” he added.
“We remain in utter regret. We pay tribute to her memory,” said the Prime Minister saying goodbye to the late Irena Szewińska.
Irena Szewińska rested in the Avenue of Merit at the Powązki Military Cemetery, near the graves of other Olympic champions: Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak, Władysław Komar, Tadeusz Ślusarski, Kamila Skolimowska.
She died on Friday, 29 June 2018.
