Both sides are driven by the good of the patient
I am happy that it was possible to reach an agreement. It is clear that both sides were driven by the good of the patient. It means that we shall be able to design subsequent stages of changes and the reform of healthcare, for the benefit of patients, said the Prime Minister. He added that improvement of healthcare was a long process, because of unsolved problems and negligence in the sector, which had built up in several recent decades.
Years of negligence, shortcomings and mistakes, and sometimes also pathologies of the recent quarter of a century, and even earlier - a very bad Communist system, led to the present condition of healthcare, stressed Mateusz Morawiecki.
A positive step in the right direction
Healthcare needs peace and quiet, to have a discussion or sometimes an argument, but design best solutions for healthcare professionals and - first of all - patients, said the head of the government. He stressed that
peaceful time was needed, to develop best mechanisms for changes and removing red tape together with medical community, and to implement electronic solutions, which would speed up medical processes and shorten the queues in hospitals.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki thanked the Minister of Health Łukasz Szumowski for the fact that it was possible to achieve an agreement today and the former Minister of Health Konstanty Radziwiłl, who, as the head of the government emphasised,
had made huge efforts to make our healthcare look better. The head of the government also thanked doctors, for what they have been saying today:
there has never been a better climate to talk about healthcare.
Actions and funds follow our words
Through our action we show that healthcare is a top priority to us, affecting all Poles. We want to improve it and spend more funds on it. This was a proposal, which we have managed to accelerate: to 6 percent of GDP by 2024. Actions, funds and money follow our words and debates. The money is there, because we have effectively tightened the tax system. I am happy that an important step towards an agreement for the benefit of patients was taken today, stated the Prime Minister.
The agreement of the Minister of Health with the Resident of the Nationwide Trade Union of Physicians
The most important elements of the agreement include an increase of the annual growth of expenditure and accelerated achievement of the level of 6 percent of GDP already in 2024. The agreement also pertains to pay raises for specialised doctors working in a single hospital, higher remuneration for residents in return for the commitment to continue to work in Poland following specialisation for the period of 2 years, removing red tape and introduction of the position of a medical secretary.
