The Prime Minister visited Szczytno, Mrągowo and Kętrzyn, where he met with local government officials. During these meetings, he presented the representatives of local governments with promises for co-financing from the Local Investment Fund.
Ensuring equal opportunities for development
I am glad that we can present such programmes here and encourage local government officials to benefit from the Government Local Investment Programme proposed by President Andrzej Duda. This programme, aimed at every poviat and every municipality, results in excellent development perspectives in every corner of Poland emphasised the Prime Minister.
During his visit to Szczytno, the Prime Minister announced that later this year the station will be put into service following its modernization. In addition to its transport functions, the station will perform commercial functions, creating a social centre in the city.
It is our plan for centres in Poland, such as Szczytno, to be vibrant with life. Equal opportunities regardless of whether it is a big city, like Warsaw, or Szczytno – this is our trademark said the head of government at the railway station. He pointed out that similar initiatives carried out in many towns in Poland create a good impulse for development and are the driving force of economic growth.
During the meeting with local government officials in Mrągowo, the Prime Minister mentioned the road investments implemented and planned in the region: construction of the S16 road on the Borki Wielkie - Mrągowo section, S61 road, Warmian-Masurian fragments of the S7 road as well as local roads. He noted that the fastest possible economic development depends on small, medium and large investments. He added that local government officials know best what to spend the money on and what residents need most.
The Government Local Investment Fund is the funds allocated for grants for municipalities, poviats and cities, worth approx. PLN 6 billion. The funds provided by the government come from the central budget.
The Fund's resources will be used for investments that are close to people, such as renovations of schools and kindergartens, investments in water supply and sewage systems, construction of nurseries, construction of road infrastructure – as well as other locally necessary activities. A special fund was created on the initiative of President Andrzej Duda.
During his visits, the Prime Minister emphasised that the government supports local governments in carrying out investments that will serve the citizens, and that the response of local governments to the coronavirus crisis should be public investments.
The Prime Minister also stressed how important it is to pursue a sustainable development policy that supports both large cities and the smallest towns, equally. He pointed out that Poland needs small, medium as well as the largest investments, such as the excavation of the Vistula Spit.
I would like investments to be a flywheel for the economy, precisely at the level of your municipalities, your poviats. Let's act together for the benefit of the citizens said the Prime Minister.
