Creating the best conditions for development
Prime Minister Beata Szydło emphasized that the creation of the metropolis was one of the commitments of her Law and Justice party undertaken during the election campaign. She added that in its work the Law and Justice government was guided by the expectations of ordinary people, citizens.
We are talking about sustainable development. We want every region, every part of Poland to have the same chance for development. We want to meet the expectations of citizens and to use the potential of individual regions, stressed the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister emphasized that there was only one Poland and the best development conditions should be created for both the entire country and its every region, using the potential of individual voivodeships, gminas and poviats.
Within the newly created metropolis, they will be able not only to cooperate and use their advantages, supporting one another, but also to create a new quality of economic development, declared the Prime Minister.
Metropolis becomes a reality
We have wondered with experts, ministers, local government officials what could provide not only compensation, but also be a driver for growth and use of the potential of the region. The ordinance provides such an opportunity, stressed the Prime Minister.
She added that it was an extremely important document for this Polish region.
It is extremely important for this part of Silesia. It is a special region due to its strong industrialisation and then, as a result of economic transformation, a profound degradation.
The Prime Minister stressed that she hoped that the potential development of the metropolis would have a positive impact on development of the economy in the entire country and would become an important part of the government’s economic strategy.
The Act on the Metropolitan Association of the Silesian Voivodeship of 9 March 2017 was signed by the president on 4 April 2017. When all requirements of the Act are met, the metropolis will be established pursuant to the Ordinance of the Council of Ministers as of 1 July 2017 and will begin to operate on 1 January 2018. Metropolis is a large city which is the economic and cultural centre of a larger area.
