Prime Minister: As of 19 June, football stadiums will be partially open

After a break related to the epidemic caused by COVID-19, PKO Ekstraklasa as well as I liga and II liga players are coming back to the pitch this weekend. Resumption of competition is the first step in the process of getting back to sporting normality. Another one - that is, partial opening of stadiums for fans - is planned for 19 June. Football fans will be able to take up to 25 percent of seats at stadiums. Importantly - everything will be carried out in the appropriate sanitary regime.

To ensure the safety related to COVID-19, we will introduce special rules regarding the purchase of tickets, appropriate seating and epidemic requirements. New rules concerning the return of fans to the stadiums will be developed in cooperation with the Polish Football Association.

We need sport for all of us - for health and fortitude. It is to bring joy not only to fans but to all Poles Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasised during a joint conference with Minister of Sport Danuta Dmowska-Andrzejuk and President of the Polish Football Association Zbigniew Boniek.

State aid for sports clubs

The head of the government stressed that in the difficult time associated with COVID-19, the Polish state did not leave sports clubs alone. Many of the clubs received help from the Financial Shield. They received over PLN 25 million said Mateusz Morawiecki. Moreover, the sports clubs also have sponsors - state-owned companies.

Unfreezing of stands

What will the unfreezing of football stands look like in practice?

  • From 19 June, football fans will be able to take up to 25 percent of seats at football stadiums.
  • Football fans will be seated at a proper distance from each other in order to avoid gatherings.
  • Appropriate rules regarding disinfection, purchase of tickets and the arriving of fans at the stadium will be applied.

The first match of PKO Ekstraklasa - still without football fans in the stands - will start on 29 May at 6.00 p.m. in Wroclaw.
