Meeting of Prime Minister Beata Szydło with the President of Azerbaijan

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Beata Szydło met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. The main topic of the discussion was the development of economic cooperation, in particular in the sectors of transport, infrastructure and logistics.

The meeting was an opportunity to bring fresh political impetus at the highest level to the intensification of Polish-Azerbaijani economic contacts. The detailed objectives of this cooperation are set out in the Joint Declaration on a Road Map towards Strategic Partnership, Political and Economic Cooperation between Poland and Azerbaijan. This document was signed on Tuesday by the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, and the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

The visit of President Ilham Aliyev was also an opportunity to discuss bilateral political relationship – strengthening the position of Poland as a key partner of Azerbaijan in the European Union and confirming the role of Azerbaijan as an important ally of Poland in the South Caucasus region.

In its multilateral dimension, the visit reflected Polish support for the development of cooperation with Azerbaijan within the framework of the Eastern Partnership and enhancing the relationship between the EU and Azerbaijan. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev invited Prime Minister Beata Szydło to visit Baku.
