Final report into the causes and circumstances of the plane crash in Smoleńsk

On 29 July 2011 the Committee for Investigation of National Aviation Accidents presented the final report into the causes and circumstances of the Tu-154M plane crash (tail number 101) in Smoleńsk.


It is not the Committee's responsibility to find anyone guilty or hold anyone responsible for the plane crash. The aim of the Committee was to determinate the circumstances and causes of the plane crash, draft recommendations and draw conclusions on how to avoid such accidents in the future.

The Committee for Investigation of National Aviation Accidents was chaired by Jerzy Miller, Minister of Interior and Administration.

The Committee included 34 members - experts at both military and civil aviation accidents. Also lawyers specializing in international and Polish aviation law, active professional airline pilots, airport customer service employees, experts in air transport security had been invited to participate in the Committee.
