At the press conference in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński presented information on government’s efforts to win the organisation of the EXPO 2022 for Poland. The Government Plenipotentiary for the EXPO 2022 World Exhibition was appointed to oversee the work aimed at obtaining the right to organise the exhibition. One of his tasks will be to draw up documents necessary to apply for the organisation of EXPO 2022 and to cooperate with Łódź authorities and the International Exhibitions Bureau in Paris.

Piotr Gliński stated that the decision about the place where EXPO will take place will be known at the end of next year. If the exhibition took place in Łódź, it would be the first EXPO in our part of Europe.

Łódź – a candidate city to host EXPO 2022

The government recommends Łódź as the city to host EXPO 2022. Łódź focuses on revitalisation of urban areas and city planning challenges faced by the world. The proposed motto of the EXPO 2022 in Poland is “City Re: Invented”. Deputy Prime Minister Gliński added that the organisation of the EXPO complies with the government’s Responsible Development Plan. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the exhibition, including all investments, will amount to PLN 8 billion by 2022. The amount includes many investment projects which are already planned for Łódź and the region, such as an important tunnel between railway stations. The exhibition is to be organised in the city centre, not on the outskirts. I promise revitalisation on a living organism of the city, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

The newly appointed Government Plenipotentiary Radosław Domagalski-Łabędzki assured that we were excellently prepared to organise the exhibition. We have a great project and an excellent team, he emphasized.

EXPO exhibitions are organised cyclically (World EXPO every five years and International EXPO between the world exhibition). The main purpose of EXPO is to present the most important scientific and technological trends in the world.
