Celebrations of the National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers with of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in attendance

God, Honour, Fatherland is the creed that guided you. God gave you strength, Honour compelled you to fight and now the Fatherland is grateful for your efforts said the head of the government during the solemn Memorial Appeal commemorating the soldiers of the post-war independence underground.

He stressed that the heroism of our brothers and sisters shown during that time is worthy of proper recognition and remembrance. It was you who led us to freedom he added.

Mateusz Morawiecki also pointed out that the value of a fight is not measured by its chance of success but by the greatness of the cause which it serves, and cited Leopold Okulicki, codename “Niedźwiadek” as a hallmark of heroism.

 The ceremony held at the Piłsudski Square was also attended by president Andrzej Duda, minister of national defence Mariusz Błaszczak as well as representatives of national institutions and combatants. This is the ninth National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers commemorated in Poland. President Lech Kaczyński was the originator of the day of remembrance dedicated to the Cursed Soldiers.
