The Economic Council at the Chairman of the Council of Ministers was established on 9 March 2010. It is composed of economists, scientists, and business practitioners.

Jan Krzysztof Bielecki was nominated the Chairman of the Council.


The basic task of the Economic Council is to provide the Prime Minister with independent and objective opinion both on the current and planned government activities. The Council members suggest practical and feasible solutions in the areas they regard as essential for the economy and for citizens. Another objective of the Council is to assess Poland’s socio-economic situation against the background of the phenomena occurring in Europe and in global economy.

Except for the permanent secretary of the Council, in the rank of the undersecretary of state, its members fulfil their functions socially and represent their private views and knowledge in it.
