- You are an invaluable person, not only for our country, but also for many of us personally, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk while addressing Władysław Bartoszewski at the celebrations to mark his 90th birthday. The celebrations were held on Sunday at the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
The Prime Minister emphasised at the beginning of his address that “[Władysław Bartoszewski’s] biography makes all words look rather crude and inadequate”.
- Some of the today’s attendees, similarly as I, are at the age when there are no natural signposts, our grandparents and parents passed away, but we consider ourselves lucky for we have you, said the Prime Minister.
- Over the recent year of difficult times for many of us, you have been a kind and exceptional signpost in our lives and at work, said the Prime Minister and stressed that these words concern also the younger generations.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk added also that “wishing you many, many more years we act as rational egoists because as long as you are all right we all feel better". - We apologise for this egoism as our goal as well as yours is the same here, he added.
- Dear Mrs. and Mr. Bartoszewski, we all simply love you very much, said the Prime Minister in closing his address to the celebrating couple.
Władysław Bartoszewski, when asked about his recipe for life, stressed that it was not a recipe of “a moderate realist-optimist”. - I am fond of life and of people, I like them as they are, said Władysław Bartoszewski and emphasised that he does think highly of young people “as they are our future”.
- May we gain good experiences from the preceding link in this chain of generations and try to understand the reasons for bad, wrong decisions and learn how to avoid them, he stressed.
The celebrations were attended by the President and his wife, the Prime Minister and his wife, numerous politicians, including ministers and members of the cultural community.
