The government has accelerated the process of privatising 802 business entities from almost all sectors of economy. At the same time, the companies of special importance (so called strategic companies) have been identified to be supervised and controlled by the State Treasury.
Privatisation revenues
Revenues from privatisation shall be used to decrease budget deficit and to implement some of the social programs. They shall be allocated to, inter alia: Science Fund, the Demographic Reserve Fund and the Enterprise Restructuring Fund. Since the beginning of the government’s term, the value of all signed privatisation contacts exceeded PLN 30 billion. In comparison, in 2007, this amounted to PLN 1.9 billion.
Strategic companies
The privatisation schedule includes the list of so-called strategic companies, in which the State Treasury’s share will be maintained. This list consists primarily of companies representing power and oil industries, inter alia: PGNiG S.A., Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN S.A., Operator Gazociągów Przesyłowych Gaz – System S.A.
Successful stock debuts
Numerous companies have successfully debuted at the Warsaw Stock Exchange, just to mention a few: PKO BP S.A., PZU SA, Enea S.A., Lubelski Węgiel „Bogdanka” S.A., PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A., Tauron Polska Energia S.A. and Zakłady Azotowe w Tarnowie – Mościcach S.A. The very GPW (Stock Exchange) has debuted as well. The transactions accounted for PLN 20 billion. The shares of debuting companies were purchased by over ... 800 thousand individual investors.
