For the last three years, the global economy has been dealing with one of the most severe financial crises. Many countries had to curtail spending; economic growth dropped and unemployment went up. The results of the crisis also affected European Union member states. Lack of global economic stability required the government to undertake actions protecting Polish economy from the aftermath of the global crisis. The priority is to protect the financial market, Polish entrepreneurs, and citizens.
The actions taken by the government proved effective. While other countries dealt with the recession, Polish economy witnessed economic growth, which is also maintained in 2011. The next step is combating the growing public debt. The government is consistently carrying out projects aimed at modernising the country and strengthening Poland's international position.
The term of the government coincided with the most tragic and difficult moments in our country's contemporary history: the Smolensk catastrophe and floods. These events required taking extraordinary decisions and employing extraordinary means. Thanks to the actions taken by the government administration the state's stability and continuous functioning of public institutions have been maintained, and those who suffered from the floods have received necessary support.
See this section for information on the most significant actions undertaken and planned by the government. The activities of the government have been divided into: public finance, EU funds, privatisation, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, taxation, labour market, retirement and pensions, energetics, agriculture and rural areas, environment protection, health care, children and family, education, learning and higher education, culture, foreign affairs, professional army and judicial system.
