Krystyna Szumilas
Minister of National Education

Born on 28 June 1956 in Knurów (Silesia).
In 1983, graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the University of Silesia in Katowice, with major in mathematics. Also graduated from the post-graduate school of territorial self-government law, education management, HR management and computer science.
At first, from 1975 to 1991, worked as a maths teacher at the 6th Primary School in Knurów. In 1991‑1995, proxy of the Board of Knurów Town for education. It was then that Knurów, as one of the first communes in Poland, took over the management of public schools from the State. Then, from 1995 to 1998, led the Municipal Complex of Educational Units of the Town Office in Knurów. In 1999‑2001, sat at the management board of the Gliwice poviat.
In 1990, in the first self-governmental elections, became a councillor of the Town of Knurów, and in 1998, a councillor of the Gliwice poviat.
Since 2001, an MP of the Civic Platform. In the Sejm of the 5th term, Chair of the Committee on Education, Science and Young People. In November 2007, became the Secretary of State in the Ministry of National Education. In the 2011 parliamentary elections, received over forty two thousand votes in the Gliwice district.
Lives in Gliwice poviat. Mother of three children and grandmother of two girls.
