Jarosław Gowin
Minister of Justice

Born on 4 December 1961 in Kraków.
Graduated from the 1st Secondary School in Jaslo, and then from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Jagiellonian University. In 1985-1989, assistant lecturer at the Institute of Social Science of the Pedagogical University of Kraków. Received scholarship from the Cambridge University. In 2001, received a PhD degree in political science at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
In the 1980s, member of the Independent Students’ Association and of the "Solidarity" movement. In 1989-1994, secretary, and in 1995-2005, editor-in-chief of the "Znak" monthly. Co-founder and President of the Tischner European University in Kraków. Since 2002 , member of the Consultation Board at the National Board of European Integration.
The originator of the "Tischner Days" and the Flying University of ZNAK. Founder of the "Józek Szkolny" scholarship fund. Collaborates with the Saint Nicolas Foundation focused on creating single mother shelters and hospices, and with "Siemacha" Association. Member of the Honorary Board of the Tischner Children’s Hospice in Kraków.
In 2005, elected a senator on the recommendation of the Civic Platform in the Kraków district. Sat on the Senate’s Committee on Science and Education and on the Committee on Territorial Self-Government and State Administration. In 2007, became an MP, having received 160,465 votes. The Chair of the Team for Bio-Ethical Convention and the Chair of the Extraordinary Committee on discussing the bills on the amendment of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland and related bills. In the 2011 elections, became an MP again.
Spends his leisure time with his family in the mountains or reading books; loves Baroque music.
