Bogdan Zdrojewski
Minister of Culture and National Heritage

Born on 18th May 1957 in Kłodzko.
Graduated from the Wrocław University, where he read philosophy and culture. In 1990-2001 he was the Mayor of Wrocław. Throughout this period he had no party affiliation. In 1997 he was elected to the Senate. He resigned on 11 January 2000, after the Constitutional Tribunal had declared that it was not possible to combine the functions of the mayor and the senator. In May 2001 he resigned from the post of the Mayor, as he decided to run for parliamentary seat.
He was elected to the Sejm of the 4th term representing the Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska). In 2005 he was re-elected, again representing the Civic Platform in the Wrocław district. In December 2006 he was elected for the post of the chairman of the Parliamentary Caucus of the Civic Platform. In recent parliamentary elections he was elected to the Sejm for the third time.
He was awarded with the Order of Saint Silvestre by the Pope John Paul II, and with the Federal Cross of Merit of the first class by the president of Germany. In 1997 he won the Andrzej Bączkowski Award, and in 1998 – the prestigious “Leader of Europe” Award. He also won many distinctions for his work in self-government. He has published numerous articles in scientific magazines.
Married, has two children: Karolina and Stanisław.
